My Story

I came to Atlanta from Puerto Rico when I was just 18 years old. I had $50 in my pocket, one suitcase, no family in the United States, and did not speak one word of English.  I knew only one person in America at that time, a friend from Puerto Rico who was a student at GA Tech.  I called him up, bunked with him in his college dorm, and found a job down the road as a dish washer at a local restaurant.

In my book Beyond the Fog, I share in depth my experiences of persistence and overcoming intense challenges which translated into profound life lessons and wisdom.

​

Due to my endeavors and accomplishments, I decided to become a writer and life coach, in addition to an energy therapy practitioner. 

 

One of my most life-changing lessons happened going through a painful divorce after 20 years of marriage.  Later in life in December of 2022, I embarked on a journey that changed my life and transformed my understanding of who we are as spiritual beings.  What began as a medical emergency soon became an experience that reshaped my purpose, my perspective, and the path I walk today.

On December 3, 2022 at 10pm, I was rushed to the ER for emergency brain surgery after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke; my brain was bleeding and if the bleeding did not stop, I would die.  Everything happened so quickly.  One moment, I was living my everyday life and the next, I was facing a life or death situation that required immediate intervention.  As the doctors prepared me for surgery with only a 7% survival rate, I had no idea that what I was about to experience would forever alter the way I see existence itself.

During the surgery, I found myself in a place unlike anywhere I had ever known.  The last thing I remember was laying in a hospital table with wired and tubes coming out of me, monitors beeping, doctors shouting.  Then, I was out.  I was suddenly surrounded by a magical golden glow.  It felt as if I was under a dome of radiant light that embraced my entire being.  The landscape around me carried a profound sense of peace as if every struggle, trauma, and hardship from my lifetime had been gently washed away.  I felt lighter than air, free from fear, and completely at ease.

As I looked around, I was in awe of the overwhelming sensation of love.  It wasn’t simply an emotion; it was a living presence that I felt connected to, as if I had become one with the golden glow itself.  There were no worries, no doubts...only a deep and unshakable peace that filled every part of me.  When I lifted my eyes, I saw the most beautiful sky, more vibrant and alive than anything I had ever witnessed.  In that moment, I realized that this place existed beyond the reality we experience here on earth.  It felt timeless, sacred, and filled with purpose.

I also became aware of a celestial being standing before me, a presence I recognized as Jesus Christ.  The connection I felt was immediate and undeniable. When our eyes met, I experienced what felt like an atomic wave of unconditional love flowing through my entire being.  It was powerful yet gentle, penetrating me at the deepest cellular level, healing wounds I did not even know I still carried.  In that instant, I felt renewed, restored, and completely whole.

There was no judgment, no fear...only compassion and understanding.  I was given a choice: to remain in that peaceful realm or to return to my life on Earth. The decision was not easy because the love and serenity I felt there were beyond words.  How would anyone not want to stay here?  Yet something inside me knew that my journey on Earth was not finished.  I had a teenage daughter from my marriage and a beloved fiance, both of whom I cherished more than anything else.  My life with my fiance, Kristen, was just starting. We had so many goals and dreams to create together.  My daughter was in her first year of college.  There was so much life left to live with her!  I chose to come back, as I did not want to leave behind these 2 people most important to me with the pain of losing me.  Suddenly, I was zapped back into consciousness and when I awoke after surgery, everything felt different.  I carried with me the memory of my journey and that golden light and unconditional love that had transformed me.  It was not just an experience to remember—it became a calling.  I began to question why I had been given another chance at life and what purpose I was meant to fulfill.  Over time, I realized that the gift I received was meant to be shared.

 

The feeling of peace and healing I experienced inspired me to create The Dragonfly Effect, a sound and frequency therapy program dedicated to helping others reconnect with balance, relaxation, and inner harmony.  Through Reiki, sound baths, tuning forks, and frequency-based modalities, I strive to create spaces where people can release stress, restore their energy, and rediscover a sense of calm.  

​

My near-death experience awakened me to the idea that we are more than our physical bodies.  We are spiritual beings navigating a human journey, capable of profound transformation when we open ourselves to love and healing.  The golden glow I encountered continues to guide me, reminding me that compassion and connection are at the heart of everything we do.

​

Today, I walk forward with gratitude and purpose. This experience did not erase my life’s challenges but rather gave me a deeper understanding of resilience and faith. I have learned that even in moments of darkness, there is always light waiting to embrace us.

​

This is not just a story about survival; it is a story about awakening.  My journey showed me that unconditional love is real, that healing can happen on levels beyond what we see, and that every moment we are given is an opportunity to grow.  By sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to look within yourselves, to find peace in the present, and to remember that you are never alone on your path.
