My Story

From Stroke to Transformation

Hello, and welcome to The Dragonfly Effect™.

My name is Ray Ortiz, and I'm grateful you've taken the time to visit my website.

For most of my life, I was focused on working hard, providing for my family, building a career, and creating opportunities for a better future. Like many people, I became accustomed to carrying the weight of responsibilities, deadlines, financial pressures, and the constant demands of everyday life.  I rarely stopped.  I was always focused on what needed to happen next.  Looking back, I can see that I spent years operating under chronic stress without fully recognizing the impact it was having on my health and well-being.

My story began in Puerto Rico before I moved to the United States at 18 years old with determination, ambition and a desire to build a meaningful life. Over the years, I built a successful career, raised a family, and experienced both personal and professional accomplishments, along with the challenges that inevitably come with them.

Along the way, I developed a deep interest in understanding how our thoughts, beliefs, habits, and daily choices influence the quality of our lives. That passion eventually led me to become a published author.  In my book, Beyond the Fog: A Journey to Self-Awareness, I explore how awareness and perspective can help us navigate life's challenges and opportunities with greater clarity.

Then, in December of 2022, everything changed.  I suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke that required emergency brain surgery.  In an instant, life forced me to stop.  The recovery process challenged me physically, mentally, and emotionally. It also gave me something I had been missing for a very long time: perspective.  During my recovery, I began to understand how easy it is to become trapped in a cycle of constant activity, pressure, and stress. I realized that many of us spend our lives operating in a state of fight-or-flight without ever giving ourselves the opportunity to slow down and reset.

One of the greatest lessons I learned was that balance is not something that happens by accident.  It requires intention.  It requires awareness. And sometimes it requires us to pause long enough to recognize when life has pulled us out of alignment.  That realization became the inspiration behind The Dragonfly Effect™.

The dragonfly symbolizes adaptability, resilience, balance, and the ability to change direction when necessary. Those qualities became deeply meaningful to me during my recovery and continue to influence how I approach life today.  The Dragonfly Effect™ is built on a simple idea:  When we take time to pause, reset, and realign, we are better equipped to navigate the challenges of everyday life.

The Dragonfly Effect™ reflects the lessons I learned through my own experience and recovery. The modalities I offer including Reiki, sound and frequency sound bath therapy, mindfulness practices, and guided relaxation techniques, are designed to support overall well-being by encouraging deep relaxation, reducing the effects of chronic stress, and helping the nervous system shift away from a constant state of fight-or-flight. These practices provide an opportunity to slow down, recharge, and cultivate a greater sense of balance, clarity, and connection to the present moment. While each person's experience is unique, the goal is simple: to help create the conditions that support a healthier, more balanced quality of life.

Today's world constantly demands our attention. We are encouraged to do more, move faster, and push harder. Yet our minds and bodies often tell a different story.  My own experience taught me that well-being is not about doing more.  Often, it's about knowing when to slow down.  Whether you're dealing with stress, feeling overwhelmed, navigating change, or simply recognizing the need for greater balance, you're not alone.  The Dragonfly Effect™ reflects a philosophy centered on nervous system reset, mindfulness, balance, and intentional living. It serves as a reminder that taking time to pause is not a sign of weakness—it is often the first step toward restoring clarity, resilience, and well-being.

Thank you for visiting The Dragonfly Effect™.

I hope my story serves as a reminder that no matter where you are in life, it's never too late to pause, reset, and realign.

With gratitude,

Ray
